People look through the internet looking for information. Blogs are good source of information, more often with a personal touch since articles are usually presented in a personal point of view, people sharing experiences.
When people are looking for a specific topic, they search through blog search engines and directories. Sites like technorati, mybloglog or google blog search are directories that will point the searches towards your blogs, increasing your blog traffic. This is the goal of every blogger.
If your just starting out, it is always wise to look over blogs with related interests as yours and get inspiration from them. This will hopefully jumpstart your own blog and will help you as you gain your own style in blogging.
